In the case of a Grama Panchayat, it is the main governing committee that implements the decisions of the Gram Sabha and manages day-to-day administration.Main Components of the PanchayatPresident:The head of the Panchayat. The President presides over meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President:Carries out the responsibilities in the absence of the President.Ward Members:Elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees:Formed to facilitate Panchayat decisions and administration in areas such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

History of Grama Panchayat

Thrippangottur Grama Panchayat has a rich historical, social, and cultural heritage rooted in the traditional agrarian society of North Kerala. In the early years, the entire region was under the control of feudal landlords (Janmis), where tenant farmers had limited rights and endured economic exploitation. Land reforms and the gradual transfer of land ownership after Independence brought significant social and economic changes, although land-related issues continued to affect many farmers. The Panchayat played an active role in India's freedom movement.
